Lucky St. Louis folks! It is SOOO hot and dry here in Eastern KS it's nearly killing us. (Literally) Great find! Glad to hear it's time to look, at least where the rain has fallen.

One of the old farmers in the NE Kansas area says that this year's weather reminds him of the winter/summer of 80-81. Said it was a really warm winter, then a quick dry spring with a very dry summer beginning. But, after the 4th of July it rained 3 weeks straight! Patience indeed. Going to be near my honey hole this afternoon, potential to pop in for a peek is rising.

Didn't go to my honey hole till this morning. Awfully dry in the woods folks. Walked my usual route and was nearly fed up with hiking until on my way back I picked these. There were a few others, barely big enough to see, under the leaf litter. They were just off the path down in the valley by oak, hickory, and sycamore as usual. They are begging for some rain. Looks like they were out for just a day or two since that last little rain we got. Leavenworth County Kansas.

I have not had ANY luck with chanties in my spots this year. saturday I walked some new spots and didn't find any chants but my wife found a huge patch of blackberries that are just starting to ripen. Planning on going in for a massive pick in a few days if nobody else finds them my guess is there will be a total of 50 quarts from this spot! I have never found any wild berries till this year and this year has been a great year, I have found a nice black rasphberry patch that I picked 12 quarts from and now these. Love it.
man, those chants looked desperate for water, almost lobster-like. as for berries, they are poppin, we spent a good half hour the other day filling our face with a patch we came across on a hike, maybe there is the silver lining of all the sun weve been getting.

Mom called this morning to tell me that there was rain in Leavenworth County. Finally! I don't know how measurable it was, but it was sure a welcome sprinkle. Hoping there was at least a half-inch. Might go check a spot or two for some smoothies in a day or so.
