I know you can freeze them and dry them as well for long term storage, but what about short term storage? How long do they last in the fridge? What should they be stored in? Got some I don't want to use right now, but would hate to have them go bad!

Most people I know dry them and then they keep for a long time. Rehydraded, they are supposed to be the best.

In a paper bag with a damp paper towel (moisten daily) or a ziplock left slightly open OR those new ziplock bags that breath in the bottom of the fridge will last for weeks
It's bad luck to pick the first morel you find. Leave it there for me!

Is this paper bag method before cleaning, and if so what about the bugs? I have always halved and cleaned them and soaked in salt water for a day, the in water in a sealed plastic container. This ways is good for a week, but I want to try the bag method (2 weeks sounds good) just need to know about the cleaning.

I keep mine in a paper bag No wet towel(In fridge). And have kept them up to five weeks. make sure I get all the grass and bark out and the ones that are almost to old.Every other day roll the bag.(No cleaning first or soaking in salt water) Till your ready to eat.

We also when we come out of the woods they right into the paper bag.

i just take what i plan on eating within the next few days and put them in tupperware in the fridge with water and turn them a few times a day so they dont dry out on the top above water. i suppose you could do something to completely submerge them.
i have two in my fridge since 4/20 this year and they still look 100% edible.. just too small to fry up by themselves.
i plan on attempting to dehydrate some this year.
